Florida school district announces closure due to illness

FLORIDA — Jackson County Schools announced it will be closed Friday to allow for a thorough cleaning of campuses and buses as part of efforts to reduce the spread of illness.

In a statement, district officials said the closure is intended to help limit the spread of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea.

Parents are being asked to keep children home if anyone in the household is experiencing these symptoms. School officials also advised that students and staff should be symptom-free for at least 24 hours before returning to school or work.

The district noted that all 12-month employees are expected to report to work as usual, and extracurricular activities will continue as scheduled.

Officials did not specify when normal class schedules will resume.
