VIRGINIA — A driver was critically injured in a shooting in Albemarle County Wednesday night, and police are also investigating a separate nearby gunfire scene.

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, officers and Albemarle County Fire Rescue crews were called around 9:40 p.m. on April 15 to the 2300 block of Peyton Drive for a reported crash.

When first responders arrived, they found a driver suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators later determined the victim had been shot in the area of Four Seasons Drive before the crash occurred. The driver was transported to UVA Health and remains in critical condition.

While investigating the crash and shooting, officers reported hearing additional gunshots nearby around 3:30 a.m. Police said further 911 calls led them to the area of Inglewood Drive and North Berkshire Road.

At that location, officers recovered multiple shell casings but reported no injuries or property damage.

Authorities said both incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
