SOUTH CAROLINA — A Dorchester County man was arrested Thursday morning after police say he caused a four-vehicle crash while driving under the influence and fled the scene.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, Roger Anibal Cardona Lopez was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence (first offense), failure to give information and render aid, and driving without a license.
Officers were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. to Patriot Boulevard near Dorchester Road following reports of a collision involving four vehicles. When police arrived, three of the vehicles involved remained at the scene.
Authorities said witnesses reported that the suspected driver fled shortly after the crash occurred. Good Samaritans followed the vehicle to Archdale Boulevard, where they detained the suspect and flagged down an off-duty Charleston police officer, who remained with the man until North Charleston officers arrived.
Police identified Lopez as the driver involved in the crash. He was taken into custody and transported to the Dorchester County Detention Center.
The incident remains under investigation.
