GEORGIA — Forty-one people, including two juveniles, have been arrested following a three-month investigation that led to the seizure of illegal drugs and firearms in Macon-Bibb County, authorities said.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests were made as part of “Operation Safe Streets,” a joint effort involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Investigators spent the last 90 days analyzing crime data and targeting areas associated with shootings, drug activity and other criminal behavior.
Authorities said the investigation uncovered links between drug trafficking, illegal firearm possession and individuals with active warrants. Task force members executed arrest and search warrants and conducted traffic stops throughout the operation.
The sheriff’s office said law enforcement seized 26 firearms, including machine guns and sawed-off shotguns, along with seven pounds of marijuana, 4.6 ounces of cocaine, 13 grams of methamphetamine and 12 grams of fentanyl.
Among those arrested were suspects facing charges ranging from drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession to aggravated assault, armed robbery, burglary, kidnapping and murder.
In a statement, Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said the operation dealt a significant blow to criminal activity in the community.
“Every firearm seized, every dangerous drug removed from our streets, and every violent offender taken into custody makes our community safer,” Davis said. “Operation Safe Streets was about protecting the residents of Bibb County and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods.”
Davis credited the results to cooperation between local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and said authorities will continue targeting repeat offenders and areas with high crime rates.
The investigation remains ongoing.
