VIRGINIA — A 25-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Chincoteague Causeway late Friday night, according to Virginia State Police.
Police said troopers responded just after 10:15 p.m. to reports of a crash on the Route 175 Causeway.
Investigators determined that a Ford Explorer was traveling east toward Chincoteague in the westbound lane when it collided with a westbound Toyota Camry.
The impact sent the Ford Explorer over the jersey wall and into a nearby marsh, police said.
The driver of the Explorer, identified as Tyler Crockett, 25, of New Church, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota Camry suffered minor injuries.
The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company reported that a large section of Route 175 was closed following the crash. The roadway reopened shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Virginia State Police said the crash remains under investigation.
