
NORTH CAROLINA — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced 21 arrests following a weekend enforcement effort aimed at reducing crime in parts of the city.
Police said the initiative, known as “Operation Queen City Safe,” focused on areas within the Metro Division located north and west of uptown Charlotte. According to officials, the operation was designed to disrupt open-air drug activity, remove illegally possessed firearms, and target individuals believed to be contributing to violent crime.
Authorities reported that the operation “significantly disrupted criminal activity” in the targeted areas.
CMPD was assisted by multiple agencies, including North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, the Mecklenburg County Alcohol Beverage Control, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
During the operation, officers conducted 174 traffic stops and issued 31 citations. In addition to the 21 arrests, police reported seizing approximately 613 grams of narcotics, nine firearms, and more than $5,700 in cash.
Further details about the arrests and potential charges were not immediately released. Officials emphasized that those taken into custody are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
