12 people arrested following large drug bust in Louisiana

LOUISIANA — Twelve people were arrested following a two-month narcotics investigation in Slidell targeting the distribution of methamphetamine, fentanyl and other illegal drugs, according to the Slidell Police Department.

Police said the department’s Narcotics and K9 divisions worked alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office during “Operation Clear Horizon,” which was conducted throughout March and May.

Investigators said the operation focused on suspected drug trafficking activity across the city.

According to police, authorities seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, psilocybin mushrooms and MDMA during the investigation. Officers also recovered drug packaging materials, digital scales and multiple firearms. Several of the guns were allegedly in the possession of convicted felons, police said.

Those arrested were identified as:

  • Michael Chappetta, 43, of Slidell
  • Joseph Paillot, 50, of Slidell
  • Darren Rohrbacker, 63, of Slidell
  • Farrel Dupuy, 49, of Slidell
  • Louis McCoy, 53, of Picayune, Mississippi
  • Jerry Babineaux, 61, of Slidell
  • Bobby Elam, 44, of Slidell
  • Michael Tavernit, 55, of Slidell
  • Bruce Metz, 28, of Metairie
  • Beau Brinson, 36, of Slidell
  • Skyla Williams, 35, of Pearl River

Police said the suspects face charges ranging from possession and distribution of controlled dangerous substances to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation remains ongoing.
