MARYLAND — A Baltimore grandfather is $1 million richer after winning the top prize on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the man purchased a $20 Triple Red 777s scratch-off ticket and discovered he had matched the “AUTOWIN 7” symbol. The prize beneath the symbol revealed he had won the game’s $1 million top prize.

The avid Baltimore Orioles fan told lottery officials he has won smaller prizes before, but this was his first top-prize victory.

“It was unbelievable,” he said.

The winner said he has not yet decided how he will spend the money, adding that while he does not have many hobbies, he may use the prize to enjoy himself.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Wawa store located at 2845 Rolling Road in Windsor Mill. The Baltimore County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.

The Triple Red 7s Family of Games launched on May 15 and includes scratch-off tickets ranging in price from $1 to $20. Lottery officials said this is the first $1 million top prize claimed in the $20 Triple Red 777s game, leaving four $1 million top prizes and four $50,000 prizes still available.
