MARYLAND — A Maryland woman and her girlfriend have been arrested in Ohio and charged in connection with the death of the woman’s 67-year-old mother in Silver Spring, authorities said.
Vanessa Wahanganisa Tjongarero-Henderson, 29, and Samantha Raebel, 36, were taken into custody Wednesday in Genoa, Ohio.
According to Montgomery County police, investigators had been searching for the pair since May 27. Officers responded to the Charter House apartment building in the 1300 block of Fenwick Lane on May 26 for a welfare check.
When officers arrived, they found Hilde Henderson, 67, dead inside the residence.
Investigators believe Henderson was beaten to death on May 22.
Both Tjongarero-Henderson and Raebel have been charged with first-degree murder. Authorities said the two are being held in Ohio pending extradition to Maryland.
The investigation remains ongoing.
