NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were critically injured and hospitalized following a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Burke County, officials said.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. Sept. 30 on Kirksey Drive near Vinearden Road. Authorities reported that both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.
Emergency responders extricated the two occupants from the vehicles and transported them to UNC Health Blue Ridge Hospital with critical injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Traffic on Kirksey Drive was closed in both directions while crews worked at the scene, and drivers were advised to use alternate routes.
