OHIO — Two people were seriously injured Monday night in a motorcycle crash in Lake County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 8:27 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 2 and North Ridge Road. A man and his passenger were traveling eastbound on a 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the driver attempted to pass other vehicles using the left berm.

Authorities said the driver tried to re-enter the roadway while navigating a curve but lost control. The motorcycle went off the road, struck a ditch and then hit an embankment.

Investigators said neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was initially taken to University Hospitals TriPoint Medical Center before being flown to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

The passenger was also seriously injured and was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Troopers believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
