OHIO — A wanted man and a wanted pregnant woman were encountered during a traffic stop in Middleburg Heights, where police also discovered suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia inside a pickup truck, according to authorities.

Police said officers on patrol around 3 p.m. June 1 noticed a Ford F-150 parked at a Speedway gas station on Bagley Road with an expired temporary registration tag. After the driver left the parking lot and turned onto Rosbough Drive, officers initiated a traffic stop.

Investigators determined the 31-year-old driver, an Oberlin man, was wanted by authorities in Portage County. A 31-year-old Brooklyn woman riding in the truck was also found to have an outstanding warrant from Fairview Park.

The man was taken into custody after Portage County authorities agreed to assume custody of him. Police said the woman, who was 15 weeks pregnant, was not arrested because Fairview Park police declined to take her into custody. She was advised to turn herself in.

During a search of the truck, officers found jars containing a brown powder and a white crystal-like substance, along with a scale, two glass pipes, a rubber band commonly associated with drug use and the burned bottom of a can often used to heat narcotics.

Police said both individuals could face additional drug-related charges pending further investigation.
