NORTH CAROLINA — Two people are facing drug charges after a traffic stop in Kinston led officers to allegedly find cocaine inside a vehicle.

According to Kinston police, officers stopped a car on West Bright Street around 9:30 p.m. Saturday for a motor vehicle violation.

Police said officers removed everyone from the vehicle during the stop and saw the driver carrying a concealed gun in his waistband.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Grant Lee, is a concealed handgun permit holder, but police said he failed to inform officers about the firearm as required under North Carolina law.

Authorities said K9 Kilo conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted officers to the possible presence of drugs.

Officers then searched the vehicle and allegedly found cocaine inside, according to police.

Lee and his passenger, 38-year-old Jessica Davenport, were arrested and taken to the Lenoir County Jail.

Lee was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, concealed handgun permit violation, driving while license revoked, no insurance, and revoked registration.

Davenport was charged with possession of cocaine.

Police said Lee is being held on a $10,000 secured bond. Davenport is being held without bond because she was already out on bond for separate drug charges in Halifax County.
