FLORIDA — Two Miami Gardens residents are facing drug trafficking and other charges after authorities discovered approximately $5 million worth of narcotics and $1.4 million in cash inside their home following a fatal robbery attempt.

According to Miami Gardens Police, the investigation began after an attempted home invasion around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near Northwest 36th Avenue and 174th Street.

Investigators said a suspect attempted to rob the residence and became involved in a physical altercation with a resident after the door was opened. During the incident, the resident’s girlfriend ran to a neighbor’s home for help. Police said the suspect fired a gun at some point during the confrontation.

A neighbor responded and shot the suspect in the head. The suspect was transported to Aventura Hospital, where he later died. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.

Police said detectives later determined the robbery was drug-related and obtained a search warrant for the home.

During the search, investigators seized approximately $1.4 million in cash and drugs with an estimated street value of $5 million. Authorities said the narcotics included cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis, MDMA, Xanax and other controlled substances. Multiple types of ammunition were also recovered.

Anthony Enrique Gordon, 50, was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine and cannabis, along with dealing in stolen property, possession of drugs without a prescription and possession of a firearm, weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.

Danette Larae Young, 58, also faces drug trafficking and related charges, according to police.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office said the seizure is the largest drug bust in the history of the Miami Gardens Police Department.

Both Gordon and Young were booked into jail and are expected to appear in bond court. The investigation remains ongoing.
