MADISON TOWNSHIP — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fire on U.S. 33 at Bixby Road in Madison Township late Saturday night.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), deputies were called to the scene around 10:34 p.m.
A 2023 Ford van was heading westbound on U.S. 33 when it collided with a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner that was turning left from eastbound U.S. 33 onto Bixby Road. The Toyota turned in front of the van, causing the crash.
Both vehicles caught fire after the collision. The Toyota came to a stop facing south across both lanes of the highway, while the van went off the road and ended up in a ditch.
The driver of the Toyota was rescued from the vehicle before the fire reached the passenger compartment, and the driver of the van escaped before the fire spread.
The driver of the Toyota was transported to Mount Carmel East in critical condition. The driver of the van was also taken to Mount Carmel East and is listed in stable condition.
