Tornados possible in parts of Arkansas

ARKANSAS — An isolated tornado threat is possible across parts of Arkansas Saturday as a storm system moves through the southern Plains and into the ArkLaTex region, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

While the highest risk for severe weather is focused over central and eastern Oklahoma and far north Texas, Arkansas lies within a broader area where severe storms could develop later in the day and into the evening.

SPC Day 1 Tornado Outlook

Forecasters say thunderstorms are expected to intensify as they move southeast from Oklahoma and Texas. As these storms enter Arkansas, they could maintain enough strength to produce damaging winds, hail and a limited tornado risk.

The Storm Prediction Center notes that conditions across the region may support organized storm clusters as the system evolves, though the greatest instability and tornado potential are expected to remain to the west.

Even so, some storms moving into Arkansas could still produce brief, isolated tornadoes, particularly if they remain surface-based and interact with favorable wind patterns.

The primary severe threats across Arkansas are expected to be damaging winds and hail, but the possibility of a tornado cannot be ruled out.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware throughout the day and monitor for watches and warnings as storms approach.
