Tornado Watch issued for parts of Georgia

GEORGIA — A tornado watch remains in effect for portions of south Georgia until 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.

The watch includes 19 counties across south central and southwest Georgia. Counties included in the watch are Baker, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Colquitt, Cook, Decatur, Early, Grady, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Thomas, Tift, Turner and Worth.

Forecasters said conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms across the region through the afternoon hours.

Cities included in the watch area include Valdosta, Thomasville, Tifton, Bainbridge, Moultrie, Fitzgerald, Sylvester, Nashville, Cairo, Ashburn and Donalsonville.

The National Weather Service urged residents to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and to have multiple ways to receive warnings in case tornado warnings are issued.

The tornado watch is expected to remain in effect until 2 p.m. EDT Thursday.
