GEORGIA — Three people have been arrested in connection with a multi-state methamphetamine investigation that authorities say removed a significant amount of the drug from communities along the Georgia-North Carolina border.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the agency’s Narcotics Division worked alongside law enforcement partners in Cherokee County, North Carolina, during the operation.

Authorities said investigators conducted surveillance on a residence in Cherokee County, which led to a traffic stop and the arrest of Amanda Lee Edmondson of Murphy, North Carolina. Deputies reported seizing approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine during that arrest.

The investigation later led to a search warrant at a home in Union County near the Georgia-North Carolina state line. During the search, deputies said they recovered trafficking quantities of methamphetamine and more than $1,500 in cash believed to be linked to illegal drug activity.

Investigators also determined that a juvenile was living at the residence where the alleged drug activity was taking place.

As a result of the investigation, Amanda Mary King, 38, of Murphy, was charged with felony exposing a child to a controlled substance, felony trafficking in methamphetamine, felony maintaining a dwelling for the sale of controlled substances and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Amanda Lee Edmondson, also of Murphy, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine.

Heather Leigh Hamby, 45, of Murphy, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
