MARYLAND — The pursuit of a stolen vehicle through Ocean City, Berlin and Showell early Saturday morning ended with three arrests after the driver struck stop sticks, continued driving on punctured tires and then fled into a wooded area, according to police.

The Ocean City Police Department said officers arrested two men from Dover, Delaware, and a 17-year-old from Dover following a multi-agency search involving Ocean City police K-9 teams and a Maryland State Police helicopter.

Police said the incident began around 1:15 a.m. Saturday when officers attempted to stop a Chevrolet Impala for speeding on Baltimore Avenue. Due to the vehicle’s speed, officers were unable to safely force it to stop.

A second traffic stop was attempted on Philadelphia Avenue near 31st Street, but police said the driver accelerated away and evaded officers. The vehicle then traveled north on Coastal Highway at a high rate of speed and drove through multiple red lights, according to an arrest report.

Authorities deployed stop sticks during the pursuit, but police said the driver continued operating the vehicle despite the punctured tires. The pursuit extended through Ocean City and into surrounding areas before the vehicle stopped and its occupants fled on foot into a wooded area.

Following a search involving multiple law enforcement agencies, officers located and arrested all three suspects.

Additional details, including the identities of those arrested and any charges filed, were not immediately available in the portion of the report released by police. The investigation remains ongoing.
