WISCONSIN — Thousands of residents across Wisconsin remain without electricity Monday evening after severe storms moved through the region, causing widespread outages.
According to PowerOutage.us, at least 19,072 homes and businesses are currently without power statewide, representing about 0.65% of the nearly 2.9 million customers tracked.
The vast majority of outages are concentrated in southeastern Wisconsin, particularly in Milwaukee County, where more than 17,000 customers are without power — nearly 9% of those tracked in the county. Racine County also reported more than 1,100 outages, with smaller numbers reported in Winnebago, Dane and Waukesha counties.
We Energies reported the largest number of outages among utilities, with more than 18,000 customers affected. Other providers, including Wisconsin Public Service and Madison Gas & Electric, reported smaller numbers of outages.
Officials say the outages are likely tied to strong storms that brought damaging winds and heavy rain, which can knock down trees and power lines.
Utility crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible, but no estimated restoration times have been announced.
Residents are urged to avoid downed power lines and report outages to their utility providers. Officials also recommend preparing for extended outages by having emergency supplies such as flashlights, batteries and nonperishable food.
