Thousands without power in Virgnia

VIRGINIA — More than 2,600 customers across Virginia are without electricity Tuesday morning as utilities continue working to restore scattered outages across the state, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

As of the latest update, 2,663 customers are without power statewide out of more than 4 million customers tracked. Virginia currently ranks fifth in the nation for the total number of outages and eighth for the percentage of customers affected.

The largest concentration of outages is in Russell County, where 509 customers are without electricity Tuesday morning. The county also has the highest percentage of customers affected in the state at 3.24%.

Other counties reporting notable outages include Amelia County with 307 outages, Rockingham County with 269, Westmoreland County with 257 and Prince George County with 216.

Among utilities, Dominion Energy reports the largest number of outages, with 999 customers affected. Appalachian Power Company reports 658 outages, while Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative and Southside Electric Cooperative also report several hundred customers without service.

Northern Neck Electric Cooperative reports the highest percentage of customers affected among major utilities tracked in the state at 1.24%.

Utility crews continue restoration efforts Tuesday morning. The causes of the outages are not immediately available.
