Thousands without power in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Nearly 2,700 homes and businesses across North Carolina are currently without electricity Monday morning, according to the latest data from PowerOutage.us.

As of the most recent update, 2,695 customers are without power statewide. The outages affect approximately 0.05% of the more than 5.5 million customers tracked across North Carolina.

Wake County is reporting the largest number of outages in the state, with 1,918 customers currently without electricity. Mecklenburg County follows with 323 outages, while Iredell County has 66 customers affected. Additional outages are reported in Forsyth County with 41 customers without power and Rutherford County with 40.

Among utility providers, Duke Energy is reporting the highest number of outages, with 1,337 customers without service. Wake Electric has 991 customers affected, while Concord Electric Systems reports 258 outages.

Wake County is currently the hardest-hit county in North Carolina, accounting for more than 70% of all reported outages statewide. Wake Electric is reporting the highest percentage of customers affected among major utilities, with 1.69% of its customers without power.

PowerOutage.us reports North Carolina currently has the eighth-highest number of power outages in the nation and ranks 13th nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Utility crews continue working to restore service, and outage totals are expected to fluctuate throughout the day.
