NORTH CAROLINA — More than 4,500 customers across North Carolina are without electricity Friday morning, according to PowerOutage.us.

As of the latest update, 4,590 customers statewide are affected by active outages. The outages impact a small portion of the more than 5.9 million customers tracked across North Carolina, but some counties are seeing more significant disruptions than others.

Orange County has the largest number of outages in the state, with 2,671 customers without power. Mecklenburg County reports 447 outages, followed by Macon County with 359 and Forsyth County with 241. Alamance County is also reporting more than 200 customers without electricity.

Piedmont EMC has the highest number of outages among utilities in the state, with 2,605 customers affected, while Duke Energy reports 1,709 outages statewide.

PowerOutage.us said North Carolina currently ranks second in the nation for the total number of active outages and seventh nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Utility crews continue working to restore power, though no estimated restoration times were immediately available for many of the outages.
