Thousands without power in Indiana

INDIANA — More than 7,800 utility customers across Indiana are without electricity Thursday morning as outages continue to affect several areas of the state.

According to PowerOutage.us, 7,821 customers are currently without power, impacting about 0.24% of the more than 3.28 million customers tracked statewide.

Marion County is reporting the largest number of outages, with 3,369 customers without service. Porter County follows with 1,842 outages, while Lake County has 756 customers without power. Additional outages are being reported in Elkhart County with 485, LaGrange County with 456, St. Joseph County with 136 and Marshall County with 104.

By percentage, LaGrange County is among the hardest-hit areas, with 2.04% of tracked customers without electricity. Porter County is reporting 1.81% of customers affected.

Northern Indiana Public Service Company is reporting the largest number of outages among utilities, with 3,661 customers without service. AES Indiana is reporting 3,370 outages, while Indiana Michigan Power has 314 customers without electricity and Duke Energy is reporting 206 outages.

Indiana currently ranks eighth in the nation for the total number of power outages and ninth for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage tracking website.

Utility crews continue restoration efforts across the state. Residents are encouraged to report outages directly to their electric provider and avoid downed power lines, which should always be treated as energized and dangerous.
