Student injured following hit-and-run incident near North Carolina middle school

NORTH CAROLINA — An 8-year-old child was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash near Quail Hollow Middle School on Saturday, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Officers responded around 5:33 p.m. to the 2900 block of Smithfield Church Road after reports of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

Police said the child was struck by a vehicle in a parking lot area near the school. Paramedics transported the victim to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries, including possible broken bones.

Investigators have not released details about the vehicle involved or the driver who left the scene. Authorities also have not said whether the child was alone at the time of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
