LOUISIANA — A 17-year-old student was arrested after allegedly bringing drugs to a school in Tangipahoa Parish, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO).
Deputies said they attempted to search the belongings of Ryan Brown Jr. after receiving a tip, but Brown ran and jumped into another student’s car in an attempt to flee. A TPSO school resource officer quickly blocked the vehicle with his patrol unit.
Before deputies reached him, Brown allegedly threw several packets of pills out of the car. Investigators said the substances appeared to be opiates and heroin, and possibly fentanyl, pending lab test results.
The student who was driving the car was not arrested, as deputies determined he was unaware Brown was attempting to escape.
Brown was booked on charges of possession of Schedule II drugs, violation of drug-free zones, resisting an officer, and obstruction of justice.
