OHIO — A student at Riverside High School was arrested Friday after being found with a firearm inside the school, according to authorities.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began around 1:55 p.m. when school administrators and a school resource officer were alerted to a student posting a threatening image on social media while inside the building.
Officials immediately placed the school on lockdown and contacted deputies. Authorities said the student believed to have posted the image was located in a classroom and taken into custody. During a search, deputies found the student in possession of a firearm.
No students or staff were injured, and the lockdown lasted about 20 minutes before it was lifted.
In a message to families, school officials said the student attends classes in the afternoon and emphasized that safety remains the district’s top priority. They also noted that law enforcement will maintain an increased presence on campus following the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
