
SOUTH CAROLINA — Six people were arrested following a narcotics investigation in Kershaw County that uncovered drugs, firearms and multiple cases of animal neglect, according to authorities.
Investigators with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, Special Response Team, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and Camden Police executed search warrants Wednesday at a home on Dixon Road in Elgin tied to 38-year-old Brandon Dixon.
During the search, deputies reported seizing multiple firearms, including a box of 7.92 Mauser ammunition, along with drugs such as fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and marijuana. Authorities also said they found extensive drug paraphernalia.
Five adults were taken into custody on narcotics and firearms-related charges. Dixon is facing charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, distribution of crack cocaine and additional drug-related offenses.
Others charged include Jerisann Boozer, 30; Ashley Aquino, 41; Jamaal Portee, 37; and McArthur Roseborough, 67, who are each facing various drug charges. Authorities said Roseborough also had an active warrant and was turned over to Elgin Police.
During the operation, deputies said they discovered several animals in poor condition, including approximately eight dogs and 20 puppies that were malnourished and infested with parasites. Investigators also reported finding several dead animals and a pig that appeared underweight and injured.
Authorities said the animals lacked adequate food, water and shelter.
Dixon has additionally been charged with 29 counts of animal cruelty, including torture, and four counts of failing to properly dispose of dead animals.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
