WEST VIRGINIA — A shelter-in-place order has been issued for areas within a one-mile radius of Catalyst Refiners in Institute, according to Metro 911 of Kanawha County.

Officials said the affected area stretches from West Virginia State University to the Nitro-Saint Albans Bridge, impacting locations on both the Route 25 and Route 60 sides of the Kanawha River.

Authorities are urging residents in the area to remain indoors and monitor local news outlets for updates as the situation develops.

As of 10:08 a.m., officials also reported that MacCorkle Avenue in the area of St. Albans and Jefferson has been shut down as a precaution.
