Severe storms Sunday could bring tornadoes to parts of Ohio

OHIO — Ohio could see severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes on Sunday as a storm system moves across the Midwest and Ohio Valley, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

The SPC’s Day 3 Convective Outlook places much of western and central Ohio under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather on Sunday, June 21, while eastern portions of the state remain under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5).

SPC Day 3 Outlook

While damaging wind gusts and large hail remain possible, forecasters say the tornado threat will be one of the primary concerns across Ohio if storms become organized during the afternoon and evening hours. Conditions may support rotating thunderstorms capable of producing a few tornadoes.

The severe weather is expected to develop Sunday afternoon as warm, humid air combines with an approaching storm system, with storms continuing into the evening before moving east.

Ohio residents are encouraged to closely monitor the latest forecasts throughout the weekend and ensure they have multiple ways to receive severe weather watches and warnings, especially as the tornado potential becomes clearer in updated forecasts.
