
VIRGINIA — Authorities are searching for a Lynchburg man who escaped custody while being sentenced in court Monday, according to the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office.
Terrence Epperson, 21, of Lynchburg, was appearing in court for sentencing on existing charges on June 1. Deputies said Epperson was not in the custody of the sheriff’s office when the incident began.
According to the sheriff’s office, a judge ordered Epperson remanded to jail during the court proceeding. As deputies moved to take him into custody, Epperson allegedly ran out of the courtroom and escaped.
As a result of the incident, Epperson is now facing an additional charge of escaping custody without force.
The Lynchburg Police Department responded to assist the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office in the search. Authorities said Epperson’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The sheriff’s office has not released a photograph of Epperson.
Deputies said there is no threat to the community at this time.
