Police searching for missing swimmer in Florida

FLORIDA — Authorities are continuing their search for a missing swimmer who disappeared in the water off Siesta Key Beach Tuesday night, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said a witness called 911 at approximately 10:22 p.m. after seeing a man enter the water and never return to shore.

The missing person is described as an adult Asian male in his early 20s, standing about 6 feet tall, with tattoos on his arms.

Investigators located several personal items belonging to the man on the beach.

A search involving the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Venice Police Department and Sarasota Police Department was conducted Tuesday night but did not locate the swimmer.

The search was suspended overnight and resumed Wednesday morning.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity, and the investigation remains active.
