
PENNSYLVANIA — A tractor-trailer crash involving multiple vehicles is causing significant traffic delays on Interstate 81 in Dauphin County Tuesday morning, and portions of the roadway remain closed.
The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on the southbound side of I-81 near the Grantville rest area in East Hanover Township.
According to PennDOT, the collision involved a tractor-trailer and several passenger vehicles. The southbound right lane and shoulder are currently closed as crews work at the scene.
Traffic on I-81 South is nearly at a standstill, with backups stretching through parts of Lebanon County. Officials said a large debris field was left on the roadway following the crash.
As of Tuesday morning, it was unclear whether anyone was injured in the wreck.
PennDOT initially estimated the affected lanes could reopen around 8:15 a.m., but motorists are advised to expect severe delays and seek alternate routes while cleanup and investigation efforts continue.
The crash remains under investigation.
