
PENNSYLVANIA — A crash involving three tractor-trailers has shut down a stretch of Interstate 81 and left one person injured early Wednesday morning, according to PennDOT.
The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-81 in Southampton Township near Exit 29, King Street/Route 174.
Officials said one of the tractor-trailers was carrying raw chicken, while another was transporting mail. The collision scattered debris across the roadway, creating a large cleanup operation.
One person was transported to a hospital following the crash. The extent of their injuries has not been released.
All northbound lanes of I-81 are closed as crews respond to the scene. Traffic was being diverted off the highway at Exit 24, Fayette Street/Route 696, in Franklin County.
Authorities said the interstate is expected to remain closed for several hours, with an estimated reopening time of around 9:45 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
