Part of I-59 in Alabama shut down following vehicle crash

ALABAMA — A multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian has caused major traffic delays Friday morning on Interstate 59 in Jefferson County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The crash happened around 6:22 a.m. near the 136-mile marker on southbound I-59.

ALEA said the southbound lanes are blocked following the crash and are expected to remain closed for an undetermined amount of time as troopers investigated and crews worked the scene.

Authorities have not released information about the condition of the pedestrian or anyone else involved in the crash.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division responded to investigate and monitor traffic in the area.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the roadway remains closed.

The crash remains under investigation.
