
GEORGIA — Interstate 16 westbound remains shut down in Twiggs County Monday after a serious crash involving a semi-truck and several passenger vehicles, according to authorities.
The crash happened near the 22 mile marker on I-16 westbound.
The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office said serious injuries have been reported in the crash.
Authorities said a Life Flight helicopter landed on the interstate to transport injured patients for treatment.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, all westbound lanes near State Route 96 are currently closed as emergency crews continue working at the scene.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while deputies, firefighters and EMS personnel respond to the crash.
Officials have not released information on how many people were injured or what caused the crash.
