NORTH CAROLINA — A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured in a shooting early Friday at the Airport Overlook near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police said the shooting was reported around 2 a.m. at the overlook area outside the airport.
According to an incident report, one or more suspects fired shots at the teen, striking her once. She was transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Authorities classified the incident as an aggravated assault.
Investigators said the suspects were not known to the victim. No arrests had been announced as of Monday morning, and police have not released descriptions of any suspects.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the case remains under active investigation.
