SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities are investigating after a 16-year-old was injured during a fight outside a tanning salon in Union on Friday.

According to Union Public Safety, officers responded to Tan Hut and Salon following reports of a fight involving multiple people. Dispatchers advised that someone at the scene was bleeding, prompting emergency medical services to respond.

When first responders arrived, they found a female juvenile suffering from a bleeding injury to her right arm. She was transported to Spartanburg Medical Center for treatment and was later released.

Investigators said the incident began when a woman who had finished tanning was sitting inside her vehicle. A juvenile allegedly approached, opened the car door, and began assaulting her. Police said a second person then joined in the attack.

During the confrontation, the woman reportedly grabbed a hatchet from inside the vehicle and displayed it before getting back inside and closing the door. Authorities said the two individuals returned and continued assaulting her through the open window.

Police said the juvenile was cut during the struggle while the woman was holding the hatchet in what investigators described as self-defense.

Officers later identified a person who left the scene before their arrival as the victim after reviewing witness statements and video evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
