KENTUCKY — A 4-year-old boy died late Saturday night after a massive search effort in Louisville, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Police said officers with the department’s 7th Division responded around 8 p.m. to the 6100 block of Richiewayne Drive after receiving a report of a missing child.
Authorities launched a large-scale search involving patrol officers, the Missing Persons Unit, K-9 teams, the Air Unit, the Drone Unit and other resources. Crews searched pools, creeks, ditch lines and nearby areas.
Police said nearly 100 neighbors also joined the search, using flashlights to search yards and call out the child’s name.
Shortly before midnight, the child was found in a nearby pool. Despite lifesaving efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
LMPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
