
TEXAS — An elderly person was found dead in Lake Cherokee on Saturday after being reported missing, according to the Elderville-Lakeport Fire Department.
Emergency responders were called to the south side of Lake Cherokee around 3:45 p.m. regarding a potential missing person.
After gathering information at the scene, firefighters determined the individual may have entered the lake and requested additional resources to assist with the search.
Divers with the Longview Fire Department Water Rescue Team responded and conducted search operations in the area. Authorities said the divers later located and recovered a body from the lake.
The identity of the deceased has not been released. Officials said the person’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and an official release by the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.
No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the death were immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
