TENNESSEE — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating after a man was found dead Thursday in Douglas Lake in Jefferson County.
According to TWRA, officials received a report Thursday morning about an unoccupied boat containing fishing gear drifting near the Rankin area of the lake near White Pine.
First responders began searching the area and later located a man’s body in about eight feet of water using a remotely operated vehicle.
Jefferson County Rescue Squad divers recovered the body at approximately 3:33 p.m., authorities said.
TWRA said the man was not wearing a life jacket.
An autopsy has been ordered, and the victim’s identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
Officials said the death marks the ninth boating fatality in Tennessee this year. The investigation remains ongoing.
