VIRGINIA — A 28-year-old woman was shot and killed in front of her family’s home during a domestic dispute Monday evening, according to police.

Officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department responded around 6 p.m. to the 3000 block of Shady Creek Road for a reported assault with a deadly weapon.

When officers arrived, they found 28-year-old Barbie Mirella Perez, who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the shooting happened in front of the home during what is believed to have been a domestic dispute. No other people were injured, but multiple nearby homes and vehicles were struck by gunfire.

Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Javonte “Jay” Blackston of Henrico County, who authorities said knew the victim. Blackston fled the scene in a vehicle before abandoning it nearby and continuing on foot.

He was taken into custody Tuesday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Region Fugitive Task Force. Officials said he is not currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail, and specific charges had not been released as of Tuesday.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Solvers.
