One person dead following wrong-way vehicle crash in Illinois

ILLINOIS — One person was killed and another was injured after a wrong-way crash involving a semi Monday morning on Interstate 80 in Joliet, according to Illinois State Police.

Troopers said the crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on westbound I-80 near Briggs Street.

Investigators said a vehicle traveling the wrong direction collided with a semi on the interstate.

Two people were taken to local hospitals following the crash. Authorities said one of the victims later died. Their identity has not been released.

The condition of the second person was not immediately known.

The crash shut down westbound I-80, with traffic being diverted to U.S. 30 while crews responded to the scene and investigated.
