One person dead following vehicle crash on I-75 in Florida

FLORIDA — One person was killed and five others were injured in a semi-trailer crash that shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 75 for several hours Sunday morning, according to authorities.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which occurred near mile marker 108 at the Pine Ridge Road exit.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said a semi-trailer rolled over and struck at least two vehicles. Five people were injured in the crash, including three who were designated as trauma alerts.

Authorities said some of the victims were flown to hospitals for treatment.

The crash forced the closure of southbound I-75 between Pine Ridge Road and Golden Gate Parkway for several hours. To help manage traffic detours, the Florida Department of Transportation opened the new diverging diamond interchange at Pine Ridge Road one day ahead of schedule.

The southbound lanes have since reopened.

The identity of the person who died has not been released.

Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, and no additional details were immediately available.
