INDIANA — Interstate 65 is closed in both directions in Jackson County after a fatal crash Saturday evening, according to Indiana State Police.

Police said the crash happened near the 50-mile marker, just north of the Seymour exit. All lanes of I-65 were shut down as emergency crews responded to the scene.

According to an Indiana Department of Transportation alert, the closure is affecting the interstate between U.S. 50 and East 700 North.

Authorities confirmed at least one person was killed in the crash. Additional details about the victim and the circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been released.

Indiana State Police said southbound motorists should exit the interstate at the 55-mile marker. A detour has been established using State Road 11 and U.S. 50.

Officials said both northbound and southbound lanes were closed to allow medical helicopters to land near the crash scene.

Traffic cameras showed significant backups along the interstate as crews worked at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
