VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer that occurred Saturday morning on Interstate 64 in Goochland County.
According to state police, the crash happened at approximately 8:11 a.m. near the 171.4-mile marker on westbound I-64.
Investigators said a 2016 Freightliner Columbia 120 pulling a trash trailer was traveling west when it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The truck continued over the guardrail, traveled down an embankment and collided with several trees.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old James Russell Sprouse of Lignum, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Police said Sprouse was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
