LOUISIANA — At least one person has died following a crash on Interstate 10 in Lafayette, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
The crash occurred on I-10 eastbound just west of University Avenue, where officers remain on the scene.
Police confirmed one fatality, though no additional details about the victim have been released.
The Lafayette Police Traffic Unit is leading the ongoing investigation into what caused the crash.
As a result of the incident, all eastbound lanes of I-10 are closed from the Ambassador Caffery off-ramp to University Avenue. Traffic is being diverted in the area, and officials warn that significant delays are expected.
Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews continue to investigate.
