OHIO — A man was killed early Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Holmes County, Ohio, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 4:44 a.m. on April 22, 2026, along State Route 241 south of County Road 235 in Salt Creek Township, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators reported that Ronald E. Pappa, 44, of Killbuck, was driving a 2000 Ford Excursion northbound when he attempted to pass a tour bus in a marked no-passing zone on a hill. Authorities said Pappa lost control of the vehicle while returning to his lane, crossed left of center, and collided with a southbound 2007 Ram pickup truck.
The pickup truck was driven by Kevin A. Nussbaum, 30, of Apple Creek. Officials said Nussbaum was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
Both vehicles came to rest in a yard along the roadway. Pappa, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was transported by East Holmes EMS to Pomerene Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while deputies investigated the scene.
Assisting agencies included East Holmes Fire and EMS and the Stark County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.
