
INDIANA — One person is dead following a fiery single-vehicle crash in Benton County on Tuesday evening, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Department.
The Benton County 911 Center received a report of a fire near the intersection of 1200 East and 700 North at approximately 6:15 p.m. on June 2.
When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in a drainage ditch on the west side of 1200 East. Authorities said firefighters extinguished both the vehicle fire and a grass fire that had spread around it.
After the fire was brought under control, first responders discovered one person dead inside the vehicle.
The victim’s identity has not been released. Officials said the Benton County Coroner’s Office will release the name after positive identification has been made and next of kin have been notified.
The investigation is being conducted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Benton County Coroner’s Office, Benton County EMS, Benton County Emergency Management Agency, the Wolcott and Remington fire departments, the Benton County 911 Center, and Farney’s Towing and Recovery.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
