GEORGIA — An 85-year-old man was killed in a crash Monday afternoon in Putnam County, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.
Authorities said the crash happened around 2 p.m. on Highway 16 near Long Shoals Road.
Investigators said Johnie Prothro, 85, was driving east on Highway 16 when he attempted to turn left into oncoming traffic. His Kia collided with a Ford F-250 traveling in the opposite direction.
Prothro was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
One occupant in the Ford suffered a minor injury but refused medical treatment, according to Sills.
Authorities said no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
